Following the great success of the UK Joomla Developers course, we are pleased to announce that the handbook that was created for the course is now available for purchase from our website.
The handbook has 46 pages of information on developing Joomla Components and was used as the basis of the two day training course. It covers topics from the beginning, how to start writing a component, to advanced issues like pagination. There are many How To sections (almost half the manual!) and many code examples for you to follow.
Click the Icon below to view the first 5 pages of the handbook (Includes the Contents Page!)

The manual is intended for those with some degree of PHP knowledge – it is not a beginners manual but written by a developer for developers. The handbook is a PDF version only and will not be shipped in physical format to you. (We are in negotiation with a publisher though!!!)
We will update the manual from time to time with new hints and tricks – and customers will get those updated versions for free!

What a great weekend! 26 of us crammed into a hot room with the air conditioning on maximum and 26 laptops pumping out the hot air into the room – fun!
The first ever UK Joomla Based PHP Developers course was a fantasic success with everyone really enjoying the two days in Gloucester. The hotel was very accomodating and the organisation by Trevena was the best.
From both verbal feedback, and the feedback forms we asked people to complete after the course, the content of the two days was at the right level for everyone, however to fit so much in we had to pass over some easier concepts a little fast! A 46 page companion manual was written by Phil Taylor which contained almost all of the subjects we covered. On the second day Phil provided the code examples for the admin side of the example component (that he wrote late on saturday night chatting to Brian near middnight!!) as it appeared that although this was a course on writing code, the delegates did not want to write code in the course hehe hehe hehe.
So we are still listening to the feedback:
A special thanks to the Cheltenham and Gloucester Chase Hotel – the feedback was great for the rooms, breakfast and accomodation!
A special thanks to Brian Teeman for printing the posters and providing excellent support
A special thanks to Trevena for organising the course
A special thanks to Mark from Coos Creations for photos – used with (assumed) permission
A special thanks to all the developers that attended – I trust you enjoyed yourself and will make some great (secure) components!!!!

Today was the first day of the Joomla UK developers course in Tewkesbury UK. All 26 delegates arrived (almost) on time thats to great organisation by Trevena. Take a look at Mark’s blog (He is a delegate on the course) where he has more photos.
How to turn register_globals off, components for joomla
There at least 2 ways of doing this, and your web host will probably not support or give you access to them both
a good webhost would have already switched register_globals off for you.
- One way (most people cant do this)
If you have full access to your server you can locate your php.ini file and modify the value for register_globals = Off in the php.ini file, remember to restart apache afterwards.
-Another way (May work depending on the configuration of the server)
create, or edit any existing .htaccess file in the root of your webspace (in the same folder as Joomla’s configuration.php)
Add the following line to the .htaccess and save, the change is instant:
php_flag register_globals off
- Securing Joomla Further
Edit the file /globals.php and change
define( ‘RG_EMULATION’, 1 );
to
define( ‘RG_EMULATION’, 0 );
These steps will secure you a bit more and are HIGHLY recommended!
Exceeding all expectations, the UK Joomla Developer Course is almost fully booked – only a week and a bit after it was announced! If you know PHP but want to learn how to write Joomla Components then you need to BOOK NOW else the course will be fully booked.
